Community Spirit

Hebden Bridge Women's Institute is one of the community groups that regularly meet at The Town Hall

Are you thinking about setting up a community group but feel a little unsure about what support is out there?  Or are you a new group that is worried about sustaining the initial momentum?  We have quite a number of community groups that meet in The Town Hall and we support them in many different ways.  We know that setting up a group from scratch can feel a bit daunting so here are some top tips to get you going:

  1. Do not be shy to charge your group members for the activities (for instance if you pay £45 for a 2h booking, you could charge your 15 attendees £3 for the session.)
  2. You could fundraise at an event (which would help get the word of the group out and about) or through raffles and tombolas, in order to allow you to build up your reserves and pay for room hire as you need it for your activities.
  3. You could apply for a small grant in order to deliver your activities for local people throughout the year ahead.

Here are some grants which only require you to be a constituted organisation:

Hebden Royd Town Council - deadlines every 3 months

Calderdale council deadlines every 3 months

Community Foundation For Calderdale - various deadlines

Awards for All - rolling deadline

If you need support in filling those applications in, please contact North Bank Forum, your new voluntary sector support provider, on 01422 345174 or e-mail sectorsupport@nbforum.org.uk.

All you need now is somewhere to meet.  Pop in to The Town Hall and come and have a look the variety of spaces we have available.
