David R Abram: Aerial Atlas of Ancient Britain - The Waterfront Hall
Sunday 26th November 2023
Tickets £10
Author and photographer David R Abram comes to the Town Hall to talk about his experiences capturing stunning aerial views of ancient Britain’s rarest and most spectacular sites.
David has spent the past five years capturing views of Britain’s most spectacular prehistoric sites from above in rare, sunrise light, using drones and telescopic poles.
Whether Neolithic tombs in Orkney, Bronze Age ceremonial sites in Snowdonia, or the enigmatic earthworks carved by our ancestors over the Yorkshire Wolds, his images reveal astonishing forms invisible at ground level, and intriguing connections between the monuments and their varied landscapes.
Lively and rich with archaeological insight, David’s illustrated talk will cherry-pick highlights from his book, the ‘Aerial Atlas of Ancient Britain’ (published by Thames & Hudson with a foreword by Professor Alice Roberts), which charts in 227 beautiful photos the arc of British prehistory from the end of the Ice Age to the arrival of the Romans.
This is a rare opportunity to see his most acclaimed work projected at scale in the North of England – an experience that is sure to inspire visits to prehistoric sites you already know, and many you don’t!
Signed, embossed copies of the Aerial Atlas will be on sale after the talk, along with 2024 calendar and greetings cards.
