November Exhibition - Heptonstall Museum: The Making of the Gallows Pole

Tuesday 31st October - 25th November 2023

Heptonstall Museum volunteers present a small photographic exhibition detailing the filming of The Gallows Pole at the historic site, with information about the locations and people involved.

In 2021 Heptonstall was one of several sites used in the filming of The Gallows Pole, Shane Meadow’s adaptation of the story of the
Cragg Vale Coiners, a notorious counterfeiting gang operating in 18th-century Yorkshire. The series is a prequel to the novel by author Benjamin Myers.

The exhibition captures a unique moment in time, amidst COVID restrictions - Heptonstall Museum had recently closed and became central to the production as it was transformed into Barb’s Tavern, an important location in the story.

During production, local resident and photographer Bruce Cutts captured moments behind the scenes for The After Alice Project.

With his kind permission, visitors to The Town Hall have an opportunity to enjoy an exhibition of photographs capturing the transformation of the village.

The exhibition will continue until 27 November.
